ATLANTA – Chinese choreographer, performer, and educator Yu Sun will serve as Project Creative Director for the fall 2026 launch of Into Atlanta Dance, a new Atlanta-based studio dedicated to adult training in Chinese classical dance and Chinese ethnic folk dance.

The launch comes as Chinese classical and ethnic folk dance is gaining broader visibility beyond traditional stage performance, with more adult learners and cultural organizations in the United States seeking structured ways to engage with Asian performing arts. In Atlanta, a city with a growing multicultural arts scene and active university and community-based cultural programming, Into Atlanta Dance aims to create a dedicated space for adult learners to study Chinese dance traditions through professional instruction.

As Project Creative Director, Sun will be responsible for the studio’s artistic direction, curriculum development, choreography, master classes, instructor training, and community-based cultural performance programming.

The studio will offer conservatory-style instruction for adult learners across the Atlanta area, including courses in Chinese classical dance as well as selected ethnic folk traditions such as Dai, Mongolian, Uyghur, and Tibetan dance. Its programming will include weekly group classes, master classes, choreography projects, cultural performance opportunities, and community arts collaborations.

Sun, who trained at Minzu University of China and previously performed with China Oriental Performing Arts Group, has built a career spanning stage performance, choreography, dance education, and cultural programming. Her credits include performances in major Chinese cultural productions and nationally recognized dance events, as well as years of teaching and curriculum development in Chinese ethnic folk dance.

“Chinese dance is not only a performing art, but also a way for people to understand history, movement, identity, and cultural expression,” Sun said. “Through Into Atlanta Dance, I hope to create a professional and welcoming space where adult learners in Atlanta can study these traditions with depth and respect. By sharing Chinese classical and ethnic folk dance in the U.S. Southeast, I hope to contribute to Atlanta’s growing cultural diversity and help build meaningful connections between Asian artistic traditions and the broader local community.”

The launch of Into Atlanta Dance reflects growing interest in cross-cultural arts education in metro Atlanta, where Asian cultural programming continues to expand across universities, community organizations, and performing arts spaces.
