Joy Xu: Building a New Path Between Cross-Border Capital and Sustainable Urban Development
As global capital increasingly turns its attention to long-term value, green transition, and social impact, sustainable urban development has become an important area of investment. Against this background, Joy Xu, also known as Qianyi Xu, has developed a professional career that combines investor relations, cross-border capital communication, market research, and strategic business development. Rather than remaining within the traditional boundaries of public relations or investor maintenance, she has gradually built a professional profile centered on helping investment institutions communicate project value, expand investor networks, and connect international capital with opportunities in the United States.

Since January 2025, Ms. Xu has served as Vice President of Investor Relations at New Land Capital. In this role, she is responsible for building cross-border investor pipelines, maintaining relationships with limited partners, preparing and presenting bilingual investor materials, participating in virtual and in-person roadshows, and supporting one-on-one meetings with prospective investors. She also works closely with senior management, finance, and compliance teams to ensure that the firm’s strategies, project information, and investment narratives are communicated accurately and consistently.
Her appointment to this position represented the continuation of a professional path that had already included experience in public relations, international marketing, investor communication, media relations, and business-event management. From February 2023 to January 2025, Ms. Xu worked as a PR Specialist at Youyork Management LLC, where her responsibilities included developing visual communication materials, planning public relations programs, preparing press content, maintaining relationships with U.S. media representatives, monitoring media coverage, and communicating with potential investors regarding contracted projects. These responsibilities allowed her to develop practical knowledge of how corporate information must be adapted for different audiences and how public communication can support broader business objectives.
At New Land Capital, Ms. Xu has applied that experience to capital-market communication. According to company materials, she helped secure more than $12 million in limited partner commitments during her tenure. Such commitments were supported by sustained investor outreach, preparation of clear presentation materials, detailed follow-up, and coordination with internal teams. Her role was not limited to introducing opportunities; she helped organize the information investors needed to assess the company’s projects, understand its strategy, and continue discussions toward a potential commitment.
Ms. Xu also participated in building more than 30 investor communities from the ground up. These communities created additional channels through which New Land Capital could communicate with prospective limited partners and maintain engagement with cross-border investor groups. Developing these networks required more than compiling contact lists. It involved identifying relevant audiences, understanding their information needs, organizing continuing communication, and presenting company developments in a manner suited to investors with different market backgrounds and decision-making preferences.
To improve the quality and efficiency of investor service, Ms. Xu helped design and maintain an LP FAQ database and a real-time response mechanism. The database organized frequently raised questions concerning projects, investment structures, market conditions, communication procedures, and other matters relevant to investors. By making commonly requested information easier to retrieve and standardizing the company’s responses, the mechanism helped reduce repeated communication, improve response efficiency, and maintain greater consistency across investor interactions.
Bilingual communication has been another important part of her work. Ms. Xu has created and presented bilingual pitch decks and other investor-facing materials during roadshows and individual meetings. Her responsibility has involved more than translating words from one language into another. She has had to identify which aspects of a project require additional explanation, determine how business and investment concepts should be presented to investors from different backgrounds, and ensure that the company’s positioning remains accurate across different communication settings. This capability has supported New Land Capital’s effort to engage international investors more effectively.
Her external representation of the company has also expanded New Land Capital’s visibility. Ms. Xu has represented the firm at more than 20 prominent forums and professional events, including the NYU China-U.S. Summit and the Columbia China Forum. Through these appearances, she participated in discussions involving investors, entrepreneurs, academic institutions, and business leaders while introducing the company’s investment interests and expanding its professional network. These engagements created opportunities for New Land Capital to strengthen existing relationships and establish contact with new investor and industry communities.
One of the notable projects she participated in advancing was “Sustainability in Action,” or SIA. Centered on sustainable urban development, the initiative brought together startup ventures, investors, experts, public audiences, and community participants through business competitions, exhibitions, and related events. Ms. Xu contributed to project coordination, investor communication, external engagement, and the presentation of participating ventures and sustainability-related ideas. Her work helped New Land Capital connect its investment activities with a broader group of entrepreneurs, institutions, and potential partners.
Within SIA, business competitions provided participating ventures with opportunities to present their business plans, financing needs, and development strategies. Exhibition and community components created additional forms of public engagement, while expert participation contributed professional perspectives to the review of early-stage ideas. Ms. Xu helped coordinate these different components and supported the communication of project information to relevant audiences. Her contribution reflected her ability to manage a project involving multiple stakeholders while maintaining a clear connection to the company’s investor relations and business-development objectives.
Her professional foundation was formed through several earlier positions. In 2022, while working as a Marketing Communication Specialist at Color Star Technology, Ms. Xu led aspects of the pre-launch investor-facing campaign for the ColorWorld Metaverse application in cooperation with external public relations agencies. The campaign achieved more than one million in reach, approximately 4.9 million impressions, and 276,000 video views, exceeding its original benchmark by 43 percent. She also managed corporate communications across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Stocktwits, and helped obtain international media coverage from outlets including Forbes Monaco, Guardian Nigeria, Wealth Magazine, and Daily Front Row.
During the same period, she worked as a PR Specialist at Top America Inc., where she participated in developing public relations strategies, planning campaigns and events, preparing press materials, maintaining media relationships, organizing press-facing activities, and monitoring published coverage. The role required her to communicate with both corporate and public audiences while supporting management’s understanding of the company’s relationships with key stakeholder groups.
Earlier, at EqualOcean, Ms. Xu served as a Marketing Coordinator and led a five-person marketing team. Her duties included delegating assignments, establishing performance indicators, coordinating with marketing teams in China, and maintaining internal alignment. She also helped invite more than 10 speakers, participated in venue research and negotiation, developed partnerships with media outlets and professional organizations, and prepared event materials and online event pages. In one venue negotiation, the final agreement was reached at nearly $800 below the listed market price, demonstrating her attention to both execution quality and cost control.
Her professional development has also been shaped by her academic background. Ms. Xu earned a master’s degree in Arts and Cultural Management from Pratt Institute after completing undergraduate studies in Film and Television Performance at Sichuan Conservatory of Music. Her training in arts, culture, performance, and communication gave her an early understanding of audience perception and narrative structure. She later applied these skills in corporate communications and investor relations, where complex commercial information must be presented accurately while remaining understandable to different audiences.
Taken together, Ms. Xu’s experience demonstrates a gradual progression from media relations and international marketing to investor communication and capital-network development. At each stage, she assumed responsibilities involving external representation, stakeholder engagement, information organization, and cross-cultural communication. Her current work at New Land Capital brings these capabilities together in a senior investor relations position with measurable business outcomes.
Her professional distinction lies in the combination of communication expertise and capital-market execution. Many communications professionals are experienced in content creation but have limited exposure to investor decision-making. Conversely, many investment professionals understand financial structures but may not have the same ability to communicate across languages and cultural contexts. Ms. Xu operates between these areas. She can coordinate with finance and compliance teams, understand investor concerns, organize project information, and present business value to cross-border audiences.
Her contributions to New Land Capital are reflected in capital commitments, investor-community development, communication-system improvement, external representation, and project coordination. The more than $12 million in LP commitments she helped support, the establishment of over 30 investor communities, her participation in more than 20 professional forums, and her work on the company’s investor-response mechanisms together demonstrate the scope of her responsibilities and results.
As her career continues, Ms. Xu is positioned to expand her work in cross-border investment, investor relations, and sustainable development-related capital communication. Her record shows an ability to move beyond routine communication assignments and contribute directly to fundraising support, investor-network expansion, institutional visibility, and the professionalization of investor service. Through this combination of experience and execution, she has established herself as an accomplished professional capable of helping investment institutions strengthen their connections with global capital.
