Free News Site Scores How Every Outlet Covered the Same Story
LONDON – 6 August, 2026 – A story about calls to offer refugee status to Jewish Canadians was covered by 23 news outlets last week. Seventy-three per cent of that coverage came from left-of-centre outlets, 27 per cent from the centre, and none at all from the right.
That figure comes from MediaBias News, a free news comparison site that launched this month and measures exactly this: not whether an outlet is biased in general, but who showed up to cover a particular story and who did not.
Each story page lists every outlet that covered it, the split across the political spectrum, and three separate scores. Trust measures corroboration and evidence. Craft measures context and the separation of fact from comment. Hype measures presentation against substance. A story on explosions at Dubai’s Jebel Ali industrial area drew 32 sources and a Trust score of 64, with 84 per cent of coverage coming from the right.
The site diverges sharply from established practice on one point. It carries outlet ratings from AllSides, Ad Fontes Media and Media Bias/Fact Check, and refuses to combine them.
“They frequently disagree with each other,” its methodology page states, “and we publish every rating we hold for an outlet rather than averaging them into one number that would conceal it.”
The site is the work of one person. “I’m an open source developer, not a journalist,” said founder Valentin-Adrian Neagu. “I’ve read every story in three or four places since I was a kid. I built this for myself, and for anyone else who reads that way.”
MediaBias News is explicit about using AI. Language models assess the coverage and draft the summaries; human editors write the model instructions, set the rejection thresholds and hold accountability. There are no invented bylines and no original reporting — every story links out to the outlets that did the work.
Its methodology page is candid about what the numbers are worth: “The scores are judgements, not measurements. Two careful editors would disagree at the margins, and so would two runs of a model.”
The site is free to read, with no paywall, no registration and no article limit, covering politics, conflict, business, science, health, climate and media across international, US, UK, European and Canadian editions.
