Pennsylvania Medicare Supplement Plans Show a $158 Monthly Price Gap for Identical Plan G Coverage, Filing Data Shows
Cherry Hill, NJ – August 24, 2026 – Pennsylvania Medicare Supplement plans for a 65-year-old span $137.68 to $295.51 a month for Plan G, a $158 monthly difference between carriers whose benefits are identical under federal standardization, according to July 2026 filed-rate data reviewed by EasyKind Medicare, an independent brokerage licensed in the state. Twenty-eight carriers currently compete for Pennsylvania Plan G business, one of the deeper Medigap markets in the country. The benefits do not vary. The price does.
Because the federal government standardized Medigap by plan letter, a Pennsylvania shopper comparing Plan G offers is comparing price and service alone. Plan N runs the same way: 28 carriers, with filed rates from $114.51 to $228.18 a month. Five carriers offer household discounts that take roughly 11 to 20 percent off. The name on the card changes nothing about what the plan pays.
Rate pressure is visible in the filings. Humana’s Pennsylvania Medigap block grew from about 4,700 covered lives in 2024 to more than 11,700 in 2025, and paid out more in claims than it collected in premiums in both years. The carrier filed a 7.42% increase effective October 2024, then a 19.53% increase effective November 2025. Fast growth priced below cost tends to correct, and Pennsylvania policyholders in fast-growing blocks are seeing that correction in their renewal letters.
Tobacco pricing widens the spread further. Among Pennsylvania carriers quoting tobacco rates, surcharges range from 10% to more than 285% above the non-tobacco rate, averaging 35%.
A Pennsylvania resident already holding a Medigap policy can apply to move the same plan letter to a lower-priced carrier at any time of year, though applications outside protected enrollment windows generally involve medical underwriting. New enrollees in their six-month Medigap open enrollment period, which begins with Part B, cannot be declined. EasyKind Medicare walks Pennsylvania shoppers through the filed-rate spread by phone at no charge; broker compensation comes from carriers and does not change the filed rate a consumer pays.
Figures come from CSG Actuarial filed-rate data as of July 12, 2026, sampled for a 65-year-old non-tobacco applicant in ZIP 19103 (Philadelphia). Full Pennsylvania rate tables are published at medicareyourself.com/medicare-supplement/pennsylvania/rate-index.
