Dakota’s Steakhouse Continues Serving Prime Steaks from Beneath the Dallas Skyline
DALLAS – September 1, 2026 – Dakota’s Steakhouse, Dallas’ underground steakhouse, continues to serve prime steaks and seafood from a dining room that has anchored downtown Dallas for more than four decades — literally beneath it. Guests descend via an iconic canopied glass elevator into an 1,800-square-foot subterranean courtyard, surrounded by a five-tiered granite water wall, lush landscaping, and the glow of a lava rock fire pit.
The restaurant’s underground setting traces back to a legendary architectural loophole: the property once belonged to the First Baptist Church of Dallas, whose deed prohibited the sale of alcohol “on the land.” When the site’s owners set out to anchor their headquarters with a world-class restaurant, they realized the restriction applied only to the surface, not beneath it, and excavated 18 feet into the Texas earth to create what has long been celebrated as one of the most romantic dining destinations in the city.

Dakota’s Steakhouse’s culinary reputation was recently recognized by the Consumer Ratings Institute, which named the restaurant the recipient of the Culinary Distinction Award for Dallas, Texas.
