Florida's Top AI SEO Specialist Danielle Birriel Helps Local Service Businesses and Startups Get Found in Google AI Mode, AI Overviews and ChatGPT
“I came up through classic local SEO, and most of those fundamentals still matter. What changed is who the audience is. For twelve years we wrote for a ranking algorithm. Now we also write for a model that reads the whole web and picks a handful of sources to trust. Local businesses and startups that understand that, and build for it deliberately, are going to own their markets while everyone else is still asking why the phone stopped ringing.”
As AI answers replace the traditional results page, the Fort Myers strategist is building first-mover visibility for local brands across Google, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – October 20, 2026 – Danielle Birriel, founder of D&D SEO Services and Danielle Birriel Consulting, is helping local service businesses and early-stage startups build their presence where customers now search first: Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT. With more than 12 years in search and a master’s degree in computer science, Birriel has become Florida’s go-to specialist for AI search optimization, the discipline of earning citations inside AI-generated answers rather than competing only for blue links.

The shift is already measurable. Google says AI Overviews now reach more than 2.5 billion people a month and AI Mode passed 1 billion monthly users within a year of launch. ChatGPT reports 1.2 billion weekly users. For a plumber, a law firm, a dental practice or a software startup, that means a growing share of would-be customers are getting a recommendation from an AI assistant before they ever see a results page.

Search is changing faster than most local businesses realize

The numbers behind the shift, as of October 2026:

  • 2.5 billion people use Google AI Overviews every month, and Google merged AI Overviews and AI Mode into a single AI search experience in May 2026 (Keywords Everywhere AI Overviews tracker).

  • AI Mode passed 1 billion monthly users within a year of launch, with query volume more than doubling every quarter (Search Engine Land).

  • ChatGPT reached 1.2 billion weekly users on September 29, 2026, up from 900 million in February (TechnologyChecker, citing OpenAI DevDay 2026).

  • 68% of U.S. Google searches now end without a click, up from 60% in 2024, according to SparkToro’s 2026 clickstream study (Search Engine Land).

  • AI Overviews appear on roughly 48% of tracked queries (BrightEdge, February 2026) and on 39% of U.S. desktop Google searches in Comscore’s June 2026 panel, up from 26% a year earlier (Keywords Everywhere).

  • The top organic result loses 58% of its clicks when an AI Overview is present (Ahrefs, 300,000-keyword study, February 2026).

  • Traffic referred from ChatGPT converts at roughly 16%, compared with 1.8% for Google organic, in a Seer Interactive case study (via TechnologyChecker).

“The page-one ranking a local business fought for in 2023 is now sitting underneath an AI answer, and that answer decides who gets the call,” Birriel said. “Ranking is still the foundation, but being the source the AI cites is the new front door. Most local businesses and startups don’t know that door exists yet, and that’s exactly the opportunity.”

Building local presence across AI Mode, AI Overviews and ChatGPT

Birriel works with two kinds of clients: established local service businesses (home services, legal, medical, financial and multi-location brands) that need to protect and extend the visibility they already have, and startups that need to build a presence from zero in a search environment that no longer rewards a website alone.

Her approach, the D&D Visibility Engine™, treats a business as an entity that AI models must be able to recognize, trust and cite. The work covers:

  • Entity and schema foundation. Structured data, consistent business information and clear author and organization signals so Google, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity can identify who the business is, where it operates and what it does.

  • Answer-first content. Service and location pages rewritten so a model can lift a direct, accurate answer out of them, built around the actual questions buyers ask AI assistants at each stage of a decision.

  • Local structure at scale. City and service page architecture, Google Business Profile optimization and internal linking that holds up across one location or thirteen.

  • Off-site citation sourcing. Identifying the directories, review platforms, listicles and editorial sources AI models already pull from in a market, then earning a place on them.

  • AI visibility tracking. Monitoring hundreds of buyer-intent prompts across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity so clients can see citations and mentions grow, not just rankings.

For startups, Birriel compresses the same system into a launch sequence: define the entity, publish the answers, secure the first third-party citations and measure from day one. “A startup has an advantage a 20-year-old company doesn’t,” she said. “There’s no legacy site to untangle. If the first thing you publish is built to be cited, you can show up in AI answers before competitors with ten times your budget.”

The results are measurable. In one recent 90-day engagement, a multi-location service company went from no presence in Google AI Overviews to more than 600 AI Overview citations, while doubling its organic keyword footprint.

Why first movers win in AI search

AI citations behave differently from rankings, and the data favors businesses that act early:

  • AI Overview sources are sticky. In a SISTRIX study of 82,619 prompts over 17 weeks, the set of cited sources did not change at all for 53% of AI Overview prompts, and roughly 8 of the 11 domains cited in a typical answer stayed constant (Keywords Everywhere). Once a business earns a citation, it tends to keep it. Once a competitor earns it, that slot is hard to take back.

  • Being cited pays. Seer Interactive found brands cited in AI Overviews saw a 120% lift in clicks, even as overall click-through on those queries fell (Keywords Everywhere).

  • Local and high-intent queries still reward optimization. SparkToro’s own study notes that local business and transactional searches remain among the categories that still send clicks (Search Engine Land). The businesses that pair that with AI citations capture both.

  • Most competitors haven’t started. The majority of local service businesses are still optimizing for a results page that fewer people scroll to. The window to become the default answer in a market is open now and will narrow as AI source sets settle.

“This is the same moment as 2010, when the businesses that claimed their Google listing first owned the map pack for a decade,” Birriel said. “AI models are deciding right now which local businesses they trust. Those decisions compound. The cost of moving first is a few months of focused work. The cost of moving last is explaining to an AI why it should replace the company it already recommends.”

About the shift, in Birriel’s words

“I came up through classic local SEO, and most of those fundamentals still matter. What changed is who the audience is. For twelve years we wrote for a ranking algorithm. Now we also write for a model that reads the whole web and picks a handful of sources to trust. Local businesses and startups that understand that, and build for it deliberately, are going to own their markets while everyone else is still asking why the phone stopped ringing.”
