Jessica Aike’s ‘To Evolve: To Suffer’ Sparks Vital Dialogue on Digital Self-Preservation
Weeks after its international release, Jessica Aike’s ‘To Evolve: To Suffer’ is prompting conversation about online boundaries, performative humility, and the mental cost of constant digital access. By the author of the African Laureate Award-winning ‘This Thing in My Head.’

London, UK – October 22, 2026 – Weeks after its international rollout, Jessica Aike’s newly released book, ‘To Evolve: To Suffer’, is drawing widespread attention for its fearless disruption of standard social media etiquette. The book has rapidly ignited a critical cultural dialogue regarding the hidden mental health costs of digital over-accessibility.

Building on the foundation of her celebrated debut, This Thing in My Head, Aike’s new work has struck a profound chord with readers trying to deal with an online landscape dominated by calculated copycats, toxic smear campaigns, and one-sided competition. Reviewers are praising Aike’s direct, objective breakdown of “street smarts” versus traditional “book smarts.”

By openly challenging the modern online culture that labels boundary-keeping as stuck-up or arrogant, To Evolve: To Suffer has turned into a powerful guide for creators and professionals looking to take back control of their personal and professional spaces.

The feedback has proven that people are completely exhausted by performative humility,” says Aike. “Carrying yourself well, maintaining emotional discipline, and protecting your reputation pay dividends over time. Everything else online is optional.”

The overwhelming response to the book To Evolve: To Suffer shows that people are ready to return to self-reliance and true self-realization. By placing self-survival and character integrity above all, the book presents a new, real way of handling contemporary human nature.

About Jessica Aike:

Jessica Aike is a British-Nigerian writer. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Ms. Aike relocated to London, England, at the age of two, where she was raised and currently resides.

She often jests that she came into the world with a pen and notebook in one hand, and a book in the other. A treasured recollection of her childhood is rooted in the various books she enjoyed reading, and since then, the numerous fiction stories, stage plays, and non-fiction pieces she has spent her time writing. As her passion matured, she recognised an inner conviction directing her towards becoming a writer.

As a teenager, she began utilising various social media platforms to start often uncomfortable, but necessary conversations. Over the course of ten years, she has campaigned for a plethora of issues, with a special focus on the culture of silence surrounding the sexual, physical, and verbal abuse of children.

In September 2023, her short fiction story, Multiple Faces of Keke, was shortlisted for the February 2024 Issue ‘Where Icarus Went,’ in Down in the Dirt Magazine. In February 2024, Multiple Faces of Keke was officially published in the February 2024 issue, ‘Where Icarus Went,’ in Down in the Dirt Magazine

In February 2025, she published her debut book, This Thing in My Head. In February 2026, This Thing in My Head was nominated for The African Laureate Award. In March 2026, This Thing in My Head was selected as a winner of The African Laureate Award for best nonfiction and literary excellence.

Ms. Aike cites her secondary school English teacher for their brilliant teaching and positive influence.
