Delivery Driver Launches GoFundMe Campaign After Unexpected Vehicle Failure Threatens Sole Source of Income
United States – Humberto Souza, an independent delivery driver whose livelihood depends entirely on his personal vehicle, has launched a GoFundMe campaign after an unexpected mechanical failure left him unable to work and facing costly repairs estimated at approximately $6,000.
For Souza, his vehicle is much more than transportation—it is the foundation of his income. Every day, he relies on his car to complete deliveries that pay for rent, food, utilities, insurance, and other essential living expenses. Without reliable transportation, he is unable to earn an income, placing him in an increasingly difficult financial situation.
The problem began when multiple warning lights suddenly illuminated on the dashboard during normal driving. Concerned about the severity of the issue, Souza immediately sought professional inspections from both a certified mechanic and a dealership. Diagnostic evaluations indicated that the vehicle may have suffered failures involving the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus system and the electronic brake control module, two sophisticated electronic systems that often require specialized repairs and expensive replacement components.
Because these repairs are highly technical, the estimated cost exceeds what Souza can afford on his own.
“I rely on my car every single day to earn a living,” said Humberto Souza. “It’s not just transportation—it’s my only source of income. Without it, I can’t make deliveries, pay my bills, or support myself. Every day my car remains out of service is another day without income.”
To provide complete transparency, Souza has shared photographs of the vehicle along with diagnostic information received from the mechanic so potential supporters can better understand the nature of the repairs.
The GoFundMe campaign has been established with a fundraising goal of $6,000, which will be used to cover repair expenses and help restore the vehicle to safe operating condition as quickly as possible. Should donations exceed the campaign goal, additional funds will be applied toward any unforeseen repair costs, preventative maintenance, and temporary financial stability while Souza resumes work.
The campaign highlights a growing challenge faced by many independent contractors and gig economy workers across the United States. Unlike traditional employees, delivery drivers often have no employer-provided transportation, paid leave, or emergency financial assistance. When their vehicle breaks down, their income stops immediately.
Community members who are able to contribute—regardless of the amount—are encouraged to support the fundraiser. Even small donations can make a meaningful difference in helping Souza return to work. Those unable to donate can still make a significant impact by sharing the campaign with family, friends, coworkers, and across social media platforms.
“Every contribution and every share gives me hope,” Souza added. “I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who takes the time to read my story and help me get back on the road. Your kindness means more than words can express.”
