Nigeria’s Presidential Initiative on CNG (PICNG) Approves Conversion of Ambulances to CNG Under CNG4HEALTHCARE Initiative
ABUJA, Nigeria – September 8, 2026 – The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, Pi-CNG, has approved the conversion of 100 ambulances to Compressed Natural Gas under the CNG4HEALTHCARE Initiative.
The approval was announced on Friday in Abuja by Dr. Noel Akpata, Founder/National Coordinator of CNG4HEALTHCARE.

According to the statement, the conversion is intended to reduce operating costs for emergency medical services and support the federal government’s energy transition policy.
CNG4HEALTHCARE is a health-energy program implemented in collaboration with Pi-CNG, and the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Health.

The initiative seeks to convert emergency medical vehicles to CNG to lower fuel expenditure and improve vehicle uptime.
A joint press briefing to formally launch the initiative will be held at the headquarters of the Presidential Initiative on CNG in Abuja.
The Special Adviser to the President on Health, Dr Salma Ibrahim Anas is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, former Minister of National Planning and Chairman of MOFI, will chair the event.

The date for the event will be announced at the press briefing in October 2026.
The launch is scheduled for November 2026.
Following the initial phase, the program plans to deploy CNG-powered ambulances on federal highways and major roads to support inter-state emergency response.
Diaspora and private sector partners will participate in this phase of the Initiative.
Details on sponsorship and partnership structures will be released after the press briefing.
