MARIETTA, GA – <\/strong>Before spending more than three decades in Arizona’s criminal justice system, David O. Thomas<\/strong> served as a Vietnam-era veteran and Russian linguist in the U.S. Air Force. In Requiem for Justice I,<\/a> he looks back on the career that followed, tracing a path through law enforcement, investigations, probation, the courts, and defense investigations.<\/p>\n

The memoir begins in 1974 when Thomas entered the Pima County Sheriff’s Department as a cadet. He recalls academy training, the camaraderie among fellow recruits, and the realities of learning the profession in Marana, Arizona. What followed was a career that would place him in a variety of roles, including detective, detective sergeant, probation officer, defense investigator, and supervisor of investigations.<\/p>\n

Drawing from those experiences, Thomas recounts incidents that range from UFO reports and bar fights to suicides and major criminal investigations. Some stories are humorous, others tragic, but together they provide a glimpse into the daily realities of criminal justice work and the people whose lives intersect with it.<\/p>\n

One of the book’s most detailed sections examines the death of Charles Morgan, whose body was discovered in the Arizona desert under circumstances that raised questions involving financial crimes, cryptic messages, and alleged organized crime connections. As Thomas follows the investigation, he encounters bureaucratic resistance, bizarre clues, and moral dilemmas that complicate efforts to uncover the truth.<\/p>\n

Rather than focusing on a single case, Requiem for Justice I<\/em> chronicles a career spent navigating the complexities of the justice system. Through personal recollections, investigative stories, and reflections gathered over thirty-four years of service, Thomas documents the challenges of criminal justice work and the cases that stayed with him throughout his career.<\/p>\n

His career included service in corrections, law enforcement, the courts, and defense investigations, with much of his work focused on investigations as a detective, detective sergeant, probation officer, and supervisor of investigations.
