Cherry Hill, NJ – August 17, 2026 –<\/strong> EasyKind Medicare, an independent Medicare broker licensed in Ohio and 34 other states, published a filed-rate review this month showing Ohio Plan G Medigap premiums span $118.17 to $342.84 a month among 32 carriers, a $224.67 spread for benefits that are identical by federal law. It is the widest gap of the five states the brokerage tracks. Ohio shoppers pay for a brand name. The benefits do not change.<\/p>\n

The spread comes from how each carrier prices its own risk pool, not from the coverage itself. Humana’s Ohio Plan G block shows the pressure building inside those pools: state filings put a 25.03% rate increase into effect April 1, 2026, the largest of six Humana filings in Ohio since 2021. The carrier’s loss ratio, the share of premium it pays back out in claims, climbed from 55.8% in 2020 to 96.9% in 2024 before easing to 92% in 2025. Humana’s Ohio Plan G now prices at $179.25 a month, ranked 16th of 32 carriers and 52% above the state’s cheapest filed rate.<\/p>\n

EasyKind Medicare added Ohio to its published rate tracker this summer, alongside New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas and North Carolina. Ohio’s $224.67 spread is nearly double New Jersey’s $113.10 gap for the same plan letter. A policyholder holding a Humana rate-increase notice is not locked into that price. Because Plan G benefits are standardized by letter, an Ohio resident can apply to move the same coverage to a lower-priced carrier at any time, though applications outside a protected enrollment window generally involve medical underwriting. New enrollees hold the strongest position: Ohio’s six-month Medigap open enrollment period, which starts with Part B enrollment, guarantees acceptance regardless of health history.
