The book is currently available in Spanish.

The work, the result of over four years of effort, posits a clear thesis: the perceived conflict between economic growth and sustainability is false, and companies that perpetuate this idea jeopardize their own long-term relevance. Taking sustainable actions to reverse environmental damage on the planet is a responsibility shared by everyone—homemakers, leaders, students, governments, universities, businesspeople, public officials, families, and society as a whole—as part of an ongoing journey called sustainability that is undertaken every day.

The official launch is organized by The C-Class—an international community of business leaders founded by Naíke Hechem—and will take place on September 8, 2026, at the Club de Industriales in Mexico City. The launch in this initial country comprises a series of presentations across Mexico—including Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Mexico City—held at business forums and bookstores. Launches in Spain and the rest of Latin America are expected to follow in approximately 10 and 18 months, respectively.

Three kinds of value, one responsibility

The book’s central argument is that economic value, social value and environmental value are not three separate agendas but three dimensions of a single corporate responsibility. Suárez Hernández writes that companies treating sustainability as an optional cost are undermining their own long-term relevance.

He borrows a term from corporate finance to make the environmental case: “Earth Overshoot Day”. No household, company or government, he argues, can indefinitely sustain a model that consumes more resources than it generates.

“Sustainability is not a destination. It is a continuous journey.”— Francisco Suárez Hernández, author of Travesía hacia un mundo sostenible

“The real goal is not to finish reading the book. In addition to being an independent author, he serves as an advisor to multiple institutions, including Coparmex, Concamin, Green Board, The C-Class, the Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature (FMCN), Mundo Ejecutivo publishing house, and Ganar-Ganar magazine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the book (Journey Toward a Sustainable World) about?

The book argues that sustainability should serve as a decision-making metric rather than an optional cost, and that economic, social, and environmental values are three dimensions of a single corporate responsibility.

A shared responsibility

The book calls for everyone to participate:

The private sector, with the capacity for innovation, investment, and large-scale transformation.

The public sector, by creating policies, incentives, and infrastructure that accelerate the transition.

The education sector, by training those who will make the decisions of the future.

The scientific community; we need knowledge to understand both the limits and the solutions.

Civil society organizations, by mobilizing communities and keeping vital causes alive.

Entrepreneurs, as many of the solutions we need have yet to be invented.

Media and social media, by effectively and creatively communicating inspiring examples of action for the planet.

Every individual, because we all consume, vote, educate, work, and leave a mark.

We share the same planet—and the same responsibility.

We need to build societies capable of creating economic opportunities, reducing inequalities, and strengthening communities, while simultaneously regenerating and protecting the ecosystems upon which we depend.

Is the book available in English?

The book is currently published in Spanish by LID Editorial.

Who is Francisco Suárez Hernández?

He is the Director of Public Affairs and Strategic Relations at FEMSA, started the company’s area and efforts in sustainability, and the former Chair of the Board of the World Environment Center—a position he held from 2015 to 2018, becoming the first Latin American to do so. He has been an ambassador for the values we promote at The C-Class (Unity & Green Board)—namely inclusion and sustainability. The book demonstrates, through concrete examples, that sustainability and profitability are not opposing forces. That is precisely the conversation our community of executives needs to have. Our businesses have an environmental and social impact because they aim to #INSPIRE, #TRANSFORM, and #TRANSCEND through sustainable leadership and a strategy that embraces the circular economy. Alongside the author—known as ‘Pancho’ in social and business circles alike—we have experienced the lessons of sustainable growth that seeks social, economic, political, and technological impact, always keeping in mind the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015.” — Naíke Hechem, CEO of The C-Class, Green Board & Unity

About The C-Class

The C-Class is an international community of business leaders advancing the circular economy and inclusive, sustainable business models in line with the UN 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
