PITTSBURGH, PA – October 19, 2026 –<\/strong> Pittsburgh education executive and strategic advisor Lamar D. Blackwell<\/a> is challenging education leaders to reconsider one of the most fundamental questions facing American schools: What does it actually mean to educate a child?<\/p>\n

Lamar Blackwell points to the word “educe,” meaning to draw out, bring forth or develop something that is already present but not yet fully realized. It is an idea he believes should reshape how leaders think about education.<\/p>\n

“We have spent generations asking what we need to put into students,” Blackwell said. “I want us to ask a different question: What greatness already exists within our students that our systems have a responsibility to draw out?”<\/p>\n

“We cannot ask teachers to continuously transform the student experience while the systems surrounding their classrooms remain unchanged,” Blackwell said. “The decisions we make at the executive level determine what eventually becomes possible at the student level.”<\/p>\n
